Loretta Yu is a Canadian actor and filmmaker. Born in Montreal and raised primarily in Nova Scotia, she earned her BA in Theatre Studies from Acadia University before beginning her professional career in Halifax.

Loretta has appeared in feature films including Enemy (dir. Denis Villeneuve), Pretend We’re Kissing, and Nonsense Revolution. Her television credits include Between, Degrassi: The Next Generation, The Listener, Hemlock Grove, and CBC’s award-winning digital series Save Me, with recurring roles in Diggstown, Moonshine. She has also appeared in TVO’s Emmy-nominated kid’s series Dino Dana and the CW’s In The Dark. She is best known over 4 seasons as a series regular on OMNItv’s CSA-nominated drama Blood and Water, which was Canada’s first trilingual television show. Over a career that spans more then 20 years, Loretta has shared the screen with many recognizable names including Martin Short, Simu Liu & Jake Gyllenhaal.

She made her professional theatre debut in The Company Theatre’s critically acclaimed production of John by Annie Baker, which received multiple Toronto Theatre Critics Awards, 2 Dora Awards and was named one of the top productions of 2017 by major publications. She was later recognized as one of NOW Magazine’s Artists to Watch for her performance in Ga Ting at the Next Stage Theatre Festival, and went on to perform in Towards Youth: A Play on Radical Hope. Most recently, Loretta starred in With Love And A Major Organ at Here For Now Theatre in Stratford, Ontario.

In 2024, Loretta expanded her artistic skills by earning honours certification in Makeup Artistry from Blanche Macdonald Centre in Vancouver, and now works across film and media both in front of and behind the camera. She is thrilled to join the team at Vancouver Young Actor’s School to support the training of up-and-coming young performers in Canada.
