HEADSHOTS & PHOTOGRAPHERS

What are Headshots?

A professional headshot is one of the most important tools an actor has. Unlike a regular photo or school portrait, an actor’s headshot is specifically designed to showcase YOU. your personality, authenticity, and the unique qualities that casting directors are looking for.

In the film and television industry, your headshot is often your very first audition. Before a casting director ever sees your self-tape or meets you in person, they’ll see your headshot. A great headshot should look exactly like you on your best day, helping casting professionals imagine you in a variety of roles.

For young actors, a strong headshot opens doors to auditions and opportunities. It gives agents, casting directors, and producers confidence that the actor they’re inviting into the room is the same person they saw in the photo. That’s why professional lighting, natural expressions, appropriate wardrobe, and an experienced headshot photographer make all the difference.

Remember: your headshot isn’t about looking perfect—it’s about looking real. The goal is to capture the genuine spark, confidence, and personality that makes each young performer unique.

Choosing a Headshot Photographer

At Vancouver Young Actors School, we believe every family should find the photographer who is the best fit for their young performer. While VYAS is not affiliated with or endorsed by any specific headshot photographer, we’ve put together the following list of photographers who many of our students and families have had wonderful experiences working with over the years.

Each photographer has their own style, personality, and approach, so we encourage you to browse their portfolios, compare their work, and choose the one whose images best reflect your child’s unique personality and acting goals.

No matter who you choose, the most important thing is selecting a photographer who understands the film and television industry and knows how to create authentic, professional actor headshots.
